[Model of the building] This model of the building gives a clear idea of its structures. The dome rotates over a fixed cylindrical part, while inside it two walls separate the telescope from the lateral lightproof Nasmyth rooms where the instrumentation is located. A low annex building houses workshops, laboratories and the control room. The bridge connects the observing floor to the upper road to permit easy servicing operations.
Five ventilation flaps over the entrance doors help control the air flow in the dome. [Ventilation flaps]
[Front side] Close-up of the building front side. Aluminium sheets cover the structure and effectively reflect light to help maintain thermal stability.
[Roof detail] To protect the roof from falling ice a stainless steel grid has been added in the summer of 1997.
